Heading to a Chesapeake school game? Here is what to bring

A football night or volleyball match is an easy way to connect with your school community. Before leaving home, check the host school's schedule, venue and ticket instructions. An away game may have different admission rules.

For the 2026–27 school year, Chesapeake Public Schools uses GoFan for ticketed middle and high school athletic events. You can buy ahead or pay at the gate with a credit or debit card; cash is not accepted. Have the digital ticket ready on your phone. Printed tickets and screenshots do not qualify for live validation.

General admission is $8. Annual passes cost $70 for adults and $40 for students, with exclusions for high school tournaments and postseason events. Review the pass rules before purchasing.

CPS also limits bags to clear bags up to 12 by 12 by 6 inches or small clutch pouches up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches, with allowances for diaper bags and necessary medical-equipment bags. Check the full school policy before attending.

Fall soccer and football continue; winter basketball registration closes October 23

Chesapeake's city recreation leagues are moving from fall games toward winter planning. The city lists fall soccer and flag/tackle football games through mid-November 2026. Fall registration has already closed; use the current team schedule rather than an old signup announcement.

The next registration deadline is October 23 for 2026–27 winter basketball. The city lists eligibility for boys ages 5–16 and girls ages 5–13, measured as of December 31, 2026. The fee is $70 for residents and $90 for nonresidents.

Practices are scheduled to begin the week of December 7, with games from January 9 through mid-March 2027. Coaches arrange practice times. Ask about the actual practice location before committing to a season.

For league questions, call 757-382-6411. The cancellation hotline is 757-382-6400 after 4:30 p.m. The city's youth sports page links registration, game schedules and financial-assistance information.

Know who represents your neighborhood—and where to raise a local issue

A neighborhood name helps you describe where you live, but it does not identify every public office responsible for your address. Voting precincts, legislative districts and school attendance zones serve different purposes.

Chesapeake's mayor and City Council members are elected at large. There is no neighborhood council ward to assign to a guide. The city's council directory gives residents a direct route to their municipal representatives.

State and federal legislative districts depend on the home address. Chesapeake's precinct page links its voting-place map and the official Who's My Legislator tool. Use those resources to identify the correct representatives rather than assuming an entire neighborhood is in one district.

For a civic-association or HOA issue, check the association's own contacts and documents. An HOA handles its own community obligations; a public street, drainage or municipal-service problem may need the city. Keeping those responsibilities clear makes a request more likely to reach the right person.
