Terms of Use
Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Use govern access to and use of Coastal Virginia Authority websites, content, directories, profiles, guides, event listings, forms, newsletters, and related services. By using the site or submitting information, a user agrees to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any additional terms displayed with a particular form or service. A person who does not agree should not use the site or submit content.
Independent Platform & Informational Use
CVA is an independent regional media and authority platform. It is not affiliated with or operated by any city, county, state, federal agency, military command, school division, port authority, licensing board, or other public entity unless a specific relationship is expressly disclosed. Site content is provided for general informational purposes and is not legal, financial, medical, tax, real-estate, engineering, safety, emergency, or other professional advice.
Profiles, Listings, Events & External Information
Business profiles, contractor profiles, organization records, event listings, guides, maps, school information, geographic descriptions, links, and other content may be based on public sources, submissions, editorial research, or paid participation. Information can change. Users are responsible for confirming current details directly with the relevant business, organizer, agency, school, venue, provider, professional, or official source before acting.
User Submissions & License
A submitter represents that the information is accurate to the best of the submitter’s knowledge, that the submitter is authorized to provide it, and that the submitter has the rights and permissions needed for uploaded text, logos, photographs, documents, and other materials. The submitter grants CVA a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, review, reproduce, edit, format, publish, display, distribute, archive, and promote submitted materials in connection with CVA and its related platforms, subject to applicable privacy and confidentiality commitments. CVA may decline, edit, remove, or request clarification for any submission.
Prohibited Use
Users may not submit unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive, defamatory, infringing, threatening, discriminatory, malicious, confidential, classified, export-controlled, CUI, proprietary, security-sensitive, or knowingly false material; impersonate another person or organization; interfere with site operation; scrape or harvest data in violation of law or these Terms; upload malware or executable code; or use CVA content or systems to mislead others about affiliation, endorsement, verification, or government status.
Intellectual Property
Unless otherwise stated, CVA’s original text, design, graphics, logos, compilation, database arrangement, software, and other owned materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Third-party names, marks, photographs, and content remain the property of their respective owners. No ownership rights are transferred by viewing the site. Limited personal, noncommercial use is permitted; republication, copying, scraping, resale, or creation of a competing database from protected CVA materials requires written permission except where law permits otherwise.
No Warranty; Limitation of Liability
CVA provides the site and content on an “as available” basis and does not guarantee completeness, accuracy, availability, uninterrupted operation, rankings, results, leads, business performance, event occurrence, service quality, professional licensing, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, CVA and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, and affiliates are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from use of the site, reliance on content, third-party services, or submitted information. Applicable law may limit these exclusions.
Indemnification, Suspension & Governing Law
To the extent permitted by law, a user or submitter agrees to be responsible for claims arising from that user’s unlawful conduct, breach of these Terms, or infringement of third-party rights. CVA may restrict access, reject submissions, or remove content when reasonably necessary. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any mandatory rights under applicable law remain unaffected. CVA may revise these Terms by posting an updated version with a new effective date.
