Start with the city’s small-business and purchasing resources, then distinguish training, vendor registration, certification and an actual contract opportunity.
Use the SWaM Business Office as a Starting Point
Virginia Beach’s SWaM Business Office provides business resources and training connected to working with the city. Its official pages link to vendor information, opportunities and partner support organizations. Check the current program calendar for registration requirements and availability.
A workshop can help explain a process, but attending one does not itself register a company as a vendor, confer a certification or award a contract. Write down the outcome you need before choosing a session.
Prepare for Vendor Registration
Use the city’s vendor information page to reach the authorized registration process. Gather the legal business name, responsible contact and accurate description of the goods or services offered. The city’s materials refer to NIGP commodity codes for purchasing categories; do not assume these are interchangeable with NAICS industry codes.
Keep the person responsible for the account informed when a contact, address or service changes. A completed profile is useful only if a buyer can reach the right person and understand the work available.
Read Opportunities and Forecasts Differently
An active solicitation contains its own response instructions and deadline. A procurement forecast is planning information and may depend on funding or later decisions. Use the official notice and amendments to decide whether there is something to respond to now.
Compare the scope with your experience, delivery capacity and available staff. Ask questions through the specified channel. Keep a copy of the version and amendments used to prepare your response.
Treat Grants as Separate Programs
If you find a grant announcement, verify the current application window, eligibility criteria, funding availability and administering organization. An older launch announcement is not evidence that applications are still open. This guide does not promise an available grant or funding award.
For contracting questions, Virginia APEX Accelerator is another source of counseling. Bring your registration questions and a specific opportunity so the discussion can address the work you are considering.
