What needs doing?

Use the questions below to make your request more specific.

Heating & cooling

Describe the comfort problem, system age and repair history. Ask whether the visit covers diagnosis only or includes a repair, and compare replacement proposals by the work included.

Electrical work

List the outlets, fixtures or circuits involved. Provide photos when useful and ask who will handle any required permit and inspection.

Plumbing

Explain the leak, blockage or fixture problem and how long it has been happening. Confirm access, cleanup and what happens if additional damage is found.

Roofing & exterior

Ask for the proposed materials, preparation, flashing work, disposal and written warranty. Compare the same scope across estimates.

Remodeling & additions

Start with the rooms, priorities and budget range. Agree on drawings, selections, permits, milestones and how changes will be priced.

Painting & finishes

Specify surfaces and current condition. Ask about preparation, repairs, paint products, coat count and protection of furniture and floors.

Flooring & tile

Measure the area and discuss removal, subfloor preparation, transitions and disposal. Separate material allowances from labor and additional preparation.

Landscaping & tree care

Clarify whether you need routine maintenance, drainage work, planting or tree work. Ask about equipment access, debris removal and protection of nearby property.

Cleaning & turnover

Choose recurring cleaning, a move-out clean or a vacation-rental turnover. Agree on the checklist, supplies, linens, access and inspection process.

Pest control

Describe the pest and where it appears. Ask for an inspection, the proposed treatment, preparation instructions and the follow-up policy.

Pool & outdoor living

Explain the pool type or outdoor project and your priorities. Ask about seasonal service, equipment, preparation, scheduling and permit responsibilities.

Movers & settling in

Provide the two addresses, inventory, stairs, elevator limits and timing. Request a written scope for packing, transport, storage and any extra charges.

Compare the actual scope of work.

A useful estimate explains the job, timing and responsibilities.

Ask who will perform the work, what is included, what costs extra and how changes are approved. Check the business named on the proposal against the appropriate official licensing resource.

Use the current CVA directories for published profiles. A profile is a starting point for your own comparison, and does not establish current availability.
