Courtney Doyle emerged as the apparent winner in Norfolk’s Ward 2, where she was the only named candidate. Her council experience connects education, business leadership and neighborhood service across some of the city’s best-known communities.
A record rooted in schools and civic life
Before her 2018 election to City Council, Doyle served on the Norfolk School Board from 2013 to 2018. She has also served as president and vice president of the West Ghent Civic League and worked as a marketing vice president at Sentara Health.
Those experiences bring institutional and neighborhood perspectives to the same table. Schools, employers and civic organizations each shape how residents experience the city, and each offers a different route for hearing local concerns.
Connecting corridors and communities
Doyle’s public responsibilities have included chairing the Hampton Boulevard Traffic Task Force and working with task forces serving Greater Park Place, Ghent and Greater Wards Corner. Regional planning and Norfolk Innovation Corridor board service add an economic-development dimension.
For West Ghent, Ghent, Park Place and Wards Corner, these connections make transportation and investment especially relevant subjects to follow. A corridor is a route to school or work, an address for a business and part of a residential neighborhood. The continuing work is to consider those uses together as projects and public spending move forward.
