Michael K. Lamonea

School Board Vice Chair — citywide

Currently serving

Background and local role

Michael Lamonea is vice chair of the Chesapeake School Board, with a current term ending in December 2026. Elected in November 2022, he previously worked in federal law enforcement, including leadership responsibilities with Homeland Security Investigations in Norfolk and Richmond. The division’s biography also identifies service on Virginia’s human-trafficking commission and the board of Samaritan House.

Those experiences give residents context for his work on safety, prevention and community partnerships. School safety includes more than a response to an emergency: families also need clear reporting routes, reliable communication and support when a concern involves more than one agency. A board member’s role is to help shape policy and oversight, rather than replace school administrators or emergency responders.

Residents can reach Lamonea through his published board email and use the division’s meeting page to follow discussions. When raising a safety-policy question, identify the policy or process involved and describe the requested improvement. Urgent threats require emergency or school reporting channels; a message to an elected board member is not a substitute for immediate assistance.
