Apparent incoming memberBackground and local role
Quniana “Q” Futrell serves on the Portsmouth School Board. Her official biography describes work in early-childhood education, including teaching at Tidewater Community College, co-ownership of Creative Learners Academy and founding Building Resilience in Communities. The latter focuses on families affected by incarceration.
Her education includes study at Tidewater Community College and Norfolk State University. The connection to early learning and family support is relevant to how children enter school and how families navigate barriers that can affect attendance and learning. The SECEP consortium also lists Futrell as Portsmouth’s representative on its joint board.
Residents can use her official member page and the School Board’s meeting resources to follow governance questions. An effective inquiry identifies the program or policy, explains the access problem and states the information needed. Individual student support should continue through the school’s appropriate channels. Her currently serving role is distinct from the apparent reelection position in the November 4, 2026 unofficial returns, which remained subject to canvassing and certification.
