Janelle St. Louis Leads Chesapeake’s Council Field with Community Health in Focus

Janelle K."Dr. J" St Louis

Janelle “Dr. J” St. Louis led Chesapeake’s council field after the November 3 election, placing her among the apparent winners of five seats. Her professional work in pharmacy and community health gives her council agenda a distinctive starting point.

Healthcare experience close to everyday life

St. Louis has worked in retail, hospital and outpatient settings and is the founder and chief executive of DJS Pharmacy Consultants. Her public-service experience includes the Chesapeake Commission on Health and Well Being and the American Heart Association’s Hampton Roads board.

Her community work has also included health-fair and wellness outreach through Mount Chesapeake Baptist Church. These experiences connect clinical knowledge with the practical ways people find information and services.

Looking beyond the clinic

Her priorities include housing affordability for teachers, first responders and families, along with roads, drainage, utilities and broadband. She has also emphasized clearer, more transparent city decision-making.

The common thread is the environment in which residents live. Dependable infrastructure, a workable housing budget and access to information can affect whether someone reaches a job, stays near family or gets to services. St. Louis’s strong showing brings those connections into focus as Chesapeake looks toward its next council term.
