The date and the setting

The Hampton Roads Chamber lists the 2026 State of the Region program for October 6, noon to 2 p.m., at Hilton Norfolk The Main. Registration and networking begin at 11:15 a.m. The program features the report produced by Old Dominion University’s Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy.

The announced topics include regional growth, defense spending, port and tourism pressures, housing, early childhood care and education, arts and culture, and water infrastructure. Together, they provide several angles on the decisions local owners and executives face.

Make the information useful

Listen for the geography and time period behind each number. Regional growth may not describe the conditions on one commercial corridor, and a forecast is different from a completed-year result.

Bring one decision you are facing: staffing, an expansion, a new service, a property choice or a target customer. Then identify which evidence changes that decision and which questions still require more local detail.

Keep reading after the event

After the program, use the released report to explore the evidence and definitions behind the presentation. A useful follow-up is to compare one finding with conditions in your own industry or part of the region, then decide whether it changes your next step.
