For a service member moving into civilian life, the next step may involve more than finding a job opening. It can mean explaining military experience to a new employer, exploring a business idea and building a different professional network.
Neptune SHIELD Foundation organizes its response around three pillars: Educate, Empower and Embrace. Its Virginia Beach programs connect workforce development with entrepreneurship and community resilience, linking the skills people bring from service with the defense and maritime sectors around them.
Skills, enterprise and connection
The foundation describes Educate as an employer-informed pathway into technical work, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and robotics. Its published program information also discusses translating military experience, mentorship and credential preparation. Prospective participants should ask the team which pathways are currently open and what each requires.
Empower focuses on entrepreneurs developing technologies with both civilian and defense applications. The fundraising materials highlight SEAL Tank, the hub’s accelerator initiative, as part of that work. Embrace adds leadership development, coaching and mental wellness resources, including the Quick Reaction Friends peer-support program.
The first-year story
In its October 2026 fundraising materials, Neptune SHIELD reports that 120 Special Operations personnel transitioned through The Honor Foundation’s 12-week cohort at the hub, seven founders completed the SEAL Tank accelerator, and 180 veterans attended monthly mental-resiliency workshops with NAMI. These are organizer-reported figures describing different activities; they should not be combined into a total of unique people served.
How local businesses can take part
A company considering support can begin with a straightforward conversation: which part of the mission fits its interests, what would its contribution support, and what opportunities exist to stay involved? Employers can ask about workforce partnerships. Experienced business leaders can ask about mentorship. Community supporters can explore the foundation’s current giving options.
The Raise the Shield Veterans Day fundraiser on November 11 provides an immediate opportunity. Main sponsorship levels range from $2,500 to $10,000. The foundation’s materials also describe permanent recognition on its Thank You Veterans Plank Owner Wall, allowing supporters to display a company or family name or honor someone important to them. Confirm recognition details and package benefits directly with the team.
For a prospective sponsor, a useful next step is to share your organization’s interests and request the current package terms. That keeps the conversation focused on the work you want to support and the involvement you can offer.
