Virginia Beach, VA
Rural Community
Farm stands, open fields and country roads give Pungo a rhythm of its own. Explore the rural side of Virginia Beach, from seasonal produce and pick-your-own outings to waterways and wide-open spaces.

Pungo

Pungo is a broad rural community in southern Virginia Beach rather than a single neighborhood with fixed subdivision boundaries. Farms, wooded tracts, waterways, rural roads, homes on varied lot sizes, agricultural businesses, and community facilities are spread across a large area that overlaps the city’s Southern Rivers watershed.

Virginia Beach supports agricultural preservation through programs such as the voluntary Agricultural Reserve Program and land-use assessment. CVA uses the Pungo page as a rural-area hub, not as a substitute for parcel records or farm-specific information.

What Makes the Pungo District Special

Pungo’s character comes from working agriculture, roadside farm activity, rural residences, wooded parcels, waterways, equestrian and land-based uses, and long distances between destinations. Some properties are active farms; others are homes, conservation lands, or rural businesses. Roads may have limited shoulders, lighting, or pedestrian infrastructure.
