The most useful orthodontic consultation explains what the clinician sees, whether treatment is appropriate and why a particular approach is recommended. Bring the question you actually want answered—about your child’s development, a bite concern or options for your own teeth—rather than arriving committed to a particular appliance.
For children, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends a checkup when a concern is first recognized and no later than age seven. An evaluation does not necessarily mean treatment starts then. Ask what the orthodontist recommends monitoring and when to return.
